One of the unique selling points for “the working woman in the GDR was also the opportunity to work on the front microphone of a rock band”.

Max Herre stated this when I asked him to compile his favorite songs from the rock, jazz and soul genres on a double album on the occasion of “75 years of AMIGA”. He was very surprised that an equal distribution of female and male voices on the four LP sides was not a problem. I was very pleased with his observation, because women's equal rights were already sanctioned in Article 7 of the GDR constitution, but inevitably did not yet play the role ascribed to them by law in everyday life. Because habit clings tenaciously to the soles of the everyday trot.

The concert is a recording from the Palast der Republik from 1983 with the most popular voices, but also with singers who had just begun their careers. These range from Uschi Brüning to Tamara Danz and Anett Navall.

The young Andreas Bicking (just 23 years old at the time, composer, arranger and musical director of the band Obelisk) has expanded his band to include a brass section and percussion and has arranged the songs for this concert and presented them live. Here, own songs and international cover versions stand side by side in a congenial mixture.
