The Spotnicks were founded by lead guitarist Bo Winberg, born in Gothenburg in 1939, who, like Joe Meek, was interested in electronics and rock'n'roll. He admired the multi-tracking techniques of master guitarist Les Paul and wondered how he could apply such innovations to his own music. This LP contains 18 tracks by the Spotnicks. And since instrumental music doesn't become obsolete as quickly as most vocal music, some of them still sound quite futuristic

The Spotnicks

Sie waren die kontinentaleuropäische Instrumental-Konkurrenz für die Shadows (UK) und die Ventures (USA). Als die Sowjets 1957 ihren ersten Sputnik ins All schossen, gründeten die Schweden Bo Winberg (Gitarre), Bob Lander (Gitarre), Björn Thein (Bass) und der englische Drummer Derek Skinner die Band, die stets in Raumfahreranzügen auftrat.

NebenAmapola, der Erkennungsmelodie vieler Hörfunksendungen, zählen Orange Blossom Special, Ghost Riders In The Sky und der Olympia-Nachzieher If You Could Read My Mind (1972) zu ihren Hits.
