Huey 'Piano' Smith & The Clowns: Just Clownin' (More Of The Best) (CD)

(1956-60 'Ace Records') (49:58/20)

Huey “Piano” Smith was one of the key musicians behind the classic New Orleans rhythm & blues sound. As a pianist, bandleader and songwriter, he played an important role in the legendary Ace and Vin recordings of the late 1950s. “Just Clownin’ (More Of The Best)” brings together 20 performances recorded between 1956 and 1960, offering a lively cross-section of Smith’s work and the remarkable musicians around him. The collection includes essential titles such as “Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu” and “Don’t You Just Know It”, alongside a wealth of lesser-known material from the Ace vaults. Other highlights include “I Tried”, “Fortune Teller”, “Walking Down The Street”, “Barbara”, “Sea Cruis”, “Mississippi”, “She’s Coming Home”, “Alimony” and “I Think You’re Jiving Me”. The sessions feature a variety of vocalists and collaborators, including Gerri Hall, Curley Moore and Benny Spellman. With its mixture of rollicking piano, infectious rhythms, memorable vocals and unmistakable Crescent City character, this collection is an excellent choice for fans of vintage New Orleans R&B, early rock ’n’ roll and the classic Ace Records sound.

Huey 'Piano' Smith and his Clowns

Don't You Just Know It

Und so kamen wir mit Don't You Just Know It.
