Nilla Pizzi was born on 16.04.1919 in Sant'Agata Bolognese. In 1942 Nilla took part in a singing competition with over 10,000 participants. She wins and starts performing with orchestra. The fascist regime considered her voice too sensual, so her songs were not played on the radio. In 1946 Nilla Pizzi changed to a new record company and her recordings were played on the radio again.

In 1951 Nilla Pizzi won the first Festival della canzone di San Remo with the song Grazie dei fiori. The following year she triumphed again in San Remo, taking first, second and third place with Vola Colomba, Papaveri E Papere and Una Donna Prega. This is still a record that no other singer has achieved.

Her successful career lasted for decades. Until shortly before her death she gave concerts. Nilla Pizzi died on 12.03.2011 at the age of 91 years.
