"Drums A Go-Go" was released in the heyday of surf rock and features infectious guitar parts (just listen to "Casbah!") - not to mention some of the most indelible
some of the most indelible drum breaks - on record. All recorded analog! While the title track reached #118 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October '65, Nelson's instrumental versions of Nelson's instrumental versions of "Whittier Blvd." (by Thee Midnighters), "I Like It Like That" (by Pete Rodriguez), "Wooly Bully" (by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs) and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (by the Rolling Stones) are equally lively, incorporating both fuzzy guitars and rock 'n' roll saxophone, a combination that not only shows the direction in which the music was heading, but also the pre-psychedelic style of the popular teen beat groups of the mid-'60s.
Nelson's dynamic, catchy playing allows the drums to intertwine with the melody in a unique way. The drums connect with the melody in a unique way, giving the album a full, complete sonic sound - even though there are no vocals!

Sandy Nelson,

geborener Sander Nelson in Santa Monica, Cali-fornia, am 1. Dezember 1938, erreichte in den frühen sechziger Jahren mit einer Reihe von Instrumenten, die sein monotones Trommeln gegen eine einsame Gitarre, die bedrohliche Riffs spielte, eine beträchtliche Popularität. Ursprünglich ein Mitglied der gleichen Westküste High School Clique mit Jan und Dean, Phil Spector und Nancy Sinatra, Nelson spielte zuerst Schlagzeug in einer obskuren lokalen Band namens Kip Tyler und die Flips, die für die Ebbe und Challenge Labels (Ex-Beach Boy Bruce Johnston spielte Klavier).

Im Jahr 1958 spielte er Schlagzeug auf dem Million-Verkäufer 'To Know I'm Is To Love Ihn', von den Teddybären, mit denen er auch während einer Cash-In-Tour reiste. Als er zur Session-Arbeit ging, spielte er auf Gene Vincents Crazy Times Album (1959), kurz vor der Aufnahme 'Teen-Beat' für das kleine Original Sound Label. Der Rekord verkaufte eine Million weltweit und Nelson zog sofort auf das größere Imperial Label, wo er zwei Jahre für seinen zweiten Hit "Let There Be Drums" warten musste.

Kurz vor der Aufnahme verlor Nelson seinen linken Fuß in einem Autounfall, aber sein Trommeln war ungestört. Während der sechziger Jahre veröffentlichte er eine Reihe von Nah-Muzak-Instrumental-Alben, die eine Vielzahl von zeitgenössischen Themen abdecken, aber seit kurzem nicht aktiv waren
