Tagsüber verdienten sich Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins, Bob Moore, Brenton Banks, Buddy Harman, Hank Garland und Floyd Cramer ihre Miete indem sie in nashville im Studio spielten aber sie konnten ebenso gut Jazz spielen. Im Juli 1960 erhielten sie die Chance, das zu beweisen. Sie wurden sie eingeladne, beim Newport Jazz festival zu spielen, einen Tag nachdem einige tausend Fans dort gewütet hatten.Unterstützt vom Vibraphonisten Gary Burton nahmen die Nashville Cats ein tragischerweise verkanntes Album auf, das damals weder den Jazz noch den Country Fans etwas sagte. Heute sind wir alle etwas aufgeschlossener und können die Ideen und den musikalischen Verstand, die Nashville berühmt machten, besser verstehen, allerdings in einem Umfeld modernen Jazz'. Unter den Titeln: Frankie & Johnny, Riot-chous, Relaxin' Round Midnight, S'Wonderful und Opus De Funk.By day, Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins, Bob Moore, Brenton Banks, Buddy Harman, Hank Garland, and Floyd Cramer paid the rent playing sessions in Nashville, but they could play jazz as well. In July 1960 they got their chance to prove it. They were invited to play the Newport Jazz Festival the day after several thousand fans had rioted. Aided by vibist Gary Burton, the Nashville cats cut a tragically neglected record that didn't appeal to either jazz and country fans at the time. We're all a little more open-minded now, and we can appreciate the imagination and musical savvy that made Nashville famous, but in a modern jazz setting. Titles include Frankie & Johnny, Riot-chous, Relaxin', Round Midnight, S'Wonderful, and Opus De Funk.
