McClain genannt, entdeckte schon mit 9 Jahren ihr Gesangstalent. Sie sang in der Band ihres Bruders, trat beim Mid-South Jamboree in Memphis auf und schloss sich der Gruppe Shylo an. Über Shylo und deren Beziehungen kam sie mit dem Produzenten Larry Rogers in Kontakt und erhielt einen Schallplattenvertrag bei Epic. Die ersten Platten blieben noch in den unteren Etagen der Country Charts hängen, doch schon bald arbeitete sich Charly McClain nach oben. Sie gehört heute zu den wichtigsten Country-Pop-Sängerinnen des Genres.
