Iain Matthews Return to Tupper Street: Valley Hi reimagined (1 CD)

(MIG Music) 10 tracks, digisleeve

Iain Matthews is one of the defining voices of British folk rock—an artist who has always steadfastly followed his own path. His career began with Fairport Convention, but he soon moved on: With Matthews Southern Comfort, he achieved worldwide success with “Woodstock,” yet left the band at the height of its fame.

Projects like Plainsong followed and cemented his reputation as an independent musical storyteller. In the early 1970s, he moved to the U.S., where, under producer Michael Nesmith, he recorded the album *Valley Hi*—which would later become his most successful solo album, yet one that didn’t fully live up to his vision. Many years later, Matthews returns to these songs. With *Return To Upper Street: Valley Hi Reimagined*, he re-records them—closer to the original vision, freer, more personal, and with a clearer message. A work about artistic self-determination and the rare opportunity to retell one’s own story.
