This compilation collects the best country songs of the Marshall Tucker Band, from their beginnings in 1972 up to 2006, including two brand new tracks.

Of course, it also includes “Heard It In A Love Song”, the band's biggest hit and a country-rock crossover. There are 32 tracks in all, including Toy Caldwell's “Too Stubborn”, a country ditty once covered by Kitty Wells. There's “When Love Begins To Fade”, “Blue Ridge Mountain Sky” and Ronnie Godfrey's excellent “Time Don't Pass By Here”. Then there's “Stay In The Country”, a song that brought the band back into the limelight in 1990.

There are also two very nice new tracks included, “Cold Day In July” and the Chris Hicks-penned “Never Again,” a song that is currently being played on country radio.

It's an excellent collection, and the producers have obviously taken a lot of care with the arrangement of the songs. They flow very nicely.
The Tucker boys have always played rock'n'roll, blues, gospel and southern rock - but underneath there's always been a firm foundation in country music.

gest. 28. 4. 1980 in Spartanburg/ South Carolina Toy Caldwell, George McCorkle, Paul Riddle, Jerry Eubanks, Doug Gray, Franklin Wilkie, Ronnie Godfrey Record Labels: Capricorn, Warner Brothers Erster Hit: Searchin` For A Rainbow (1976) The Marshall Tucker Band, eine Country-Rock-Gruppe, die 1971 gegründet wurde und deren Gründungsmitglieder alle aus Spartanburg/South Carolina stammten. Mittelpunkt der Gruppe waren die beiden Caldwell Brüder Tommy und Toy und der Name der Band ist ein Zufallsprodukt: Während einer Probe in einem alten Lagerschuppen fand man einen Schlüssel mit der Aufschrift „Marshall Tukker“. So fand die Band zu ihrem Namen. Die Marshall Tukker Band verfolgte zunächst etwas die musikalische Richtung der Allman Brothers Band, fand aber dann rasch zu einem breiteren Spektrum. Die Bandmitglieder bezeichneten ihre Musik gerne als „Progressive Country“, „Country Jazz“ oder „Bluesy Rock 'n` Roll“. Die Gruppe war in den Pop- wie auch in den Country Charts vertreten, doch war sie immer mehr eine L.P.-Formation geblieben. Nach dem Tod von Tommy Caldwell, der an den Folgen eines Autounfalls starb, wurde die Band etwas umorganisiert, was ihrer Qualität jedoch keinen Abbruch tat.
