"HAWKWIND"

Hawkwind

Hawkwind waren ursprünglich Gruppe X, die aus Lon-don's Ladbroke Grove hervorging, die einem Hippie-Ghetto 1970 am nächsten kam. Sie schaffen es immer noch, das gesteinigte Ambiente zu erhalten. X wurde Hawkwind Zoo, dann schlicht Hawkwind, als ihr Manager Doug Smith sie bei United Artists unter Vertrag nahm. Gegründet von Dave Brock (Gitarre, Gesang) bestand die ursprüngliche Besetzung aus Huw Lloyd Langton (Gitarre), Terry 011is (Schlagzeug), Nick (später Nik) Turner (Saxophon), Dave Anderson (Bass) und Dikmik (Elektronik).

Die Band wurde als Stammgast in der freien Festivalszene bekannt und das erste Album (Hawkwind, 1970) war nicht beeindruckend. Doch im folgenden Jahr schloss sich der Dichter und Schriftsteller Bob Calvert dem Ensemble an und inspirierte Hawkwinds'Space-Rock'-Persönlichkeit bei In Search Of Space (1971) und deren Überraschungshit-Single'Silver Machine' (1972). Verschiedene personelle Veränderungen traten ein, als Hawkwind eine große, jugendliche Fangemeinde auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks konsolidierte. Langton, 011is und Anderson links, mit Lemmy ass), Simon King (Schlagzeug) und Del Detmar (Elektronik) oining.

Die statuenhafte Stacia wurde schließlich zu einem festen Bestandteil der Tanzkunst, während 1974 Dikmik und Calvert abreisten, um eine Solokarriere zu verfolgen. Im nächsten Jahr gründete mmy Motorhead, eine Hardrockband, deren Mangel an Rowdys an den frühen Hawkwind erinnerte. Weitere Tourneen und Alben (z.B. Space Ritual, 1973) setzten sich in ihrer Zeitverwerfung, ihrem anachronistischen Alter und ihrem Science-Fiction-Material fort, das Teenager, die mit der Flower-Power und all ihren Besonderheiten nicht vertraut sind, anspricht.
