Lionel Hampton – Paris Session 1956 on CD, released by EMI France in 1989. The 12 recordings were made on May 3, 1956 at the Magellan Studios in Paris. Lionel Hampton performs on vibraphone, piano and vocals, joined by Claude Bolling on piano, Guy Lafitte on tenor saxophone, Billy Mackel on electric guitar, Paul Rovere on bass and Curley Hamner on drums. The programme includes Panama, Blues For Lorraine, Genevieve, Le Piege, Jazz Stars News, Sweethearts On Parade, Hamp Swings The Bells, Honeysuckle Rose, Body And Soul and two versions of What's New, followed by Jam For Brigitte. The session offers a fine example of the energetic swing and blues-oriented jazz associated with Hampton's work during this period. An appealing release for collectors of classic jazz and Lionel Hampton recordings.
