The best of three Madison Square Garden shows (September 18-20, 1990) on one double CD? Yes, please! Actually, Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 1 is almost entirely from September 19 and 20, but the September 18 encore "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is not to be missed, a particularly moving performance in light of keyboardist Brent Mydland's death two months earlier.

On that tour, ex-Tubes members Vince Welnick (on electric keyboards) and Bruce Hornsby (on grand piano) ably stepped into the void left by Mydland and catapulted the band to new heights. A rare "Dark Star" from the '90s, a second set "Let It Grow" that went in new and intriguing directions. Although Dick's Picks Vol. 9 is from the same MSG shows (Sept. 16, to be exact), many people feel that these dates were better. Highlight of the 90's Dead!
