Born in Houston into a musical family, Roy learned to play the guitar at an early age. T-Bone Walker was his hero, and at fourteen he met him at a local show. Soon he began fraternizing with other young local blues players such as Clarence Hollimon, or Johnny Copeland. He made his first recordings at age 20. Soon after he began working for Big Mama Thornton, and Bobby 'Blue' Bland before he moved to NYC. There he became a much-in-demand session player. For most of the 1970s he was a member of the famous Crusaders. Today, Roy Gaines is one of the greatest urban electric blues guitar players and singers. With his full-bodied tone and his unique blend of Texas style shuffles and New Orleans swing he is winning new fans in the blues community. 'In The House', recorded at the renown 'Lucerne Blues Festival' in Switzerland, perfectly reflects that raw musical energy and the versatility of this great bluesman.
