(Request Records) 20 tracks

„Sugar Shack“ showcases Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs in the vocal-oriented phase that followed the group’s celebrated instrumental recordings. This 1990 Request Records CD, catalogue CD 13503, was made in Denmark and presents 20 mono tracks, including the massive 1963 hit „Sugar Shack“. Recorded at Norman Petty’s studios in Clovis, New Mexico, the song became a US number-one smash and remains the defining recording of Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs. The collection also features „Ain’t Gonna Tell Anybody“, „Almost Eighteen“, „Daisy Petal Pickin’“, „She Belongs To Me“, „Red Cadillac And Black Moustache“, „Cry Baby“ and „I’m Gonna Go Walkin’“. Two bonus tracks, „Slippin’ And Slidin’“ and „It’s Summer“, round out the programme. A worthwhile edition for collectors of The Fireballs, Jimmy Gilmer and fans of the melodic American pop and rock’n’roll sound of the early 1960s.
