Bill Evans, live from London, March 1965. When pianist Bill Evans brought the second of his celebrated trios to London in early March 1965, he was breaking new ground in familiar territory. Between revered trio figures Scott LaFaro, Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, Gary Peacock and Eddie Gomez was the '63-'65 lineup of Chuck Israels and Larry Bunker, both of whom broke new ground in the triangle concept otherwise captured in Trio '65. This recording, reminiscent of Explorations (1961) and Waltz For Debby (1962), conveys the intimate feel of the legendary Soho Club, with enthusiastic applause at the end of each song and the silence of anticipation in between. Top Note presents the Bill Evans Trio performing live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho, London, in early March, as well as tracks selected for broadcast by WBGO-FM and PBS-TV later that month.
