The Earls: Remember Me Baby (LP)

(Woodbury Records) 16 tracks - 1970s US reissue of the 1963 LP with 4 bonus tracks

The Earls – Remember Me Baby features twelve recordings by the American vocal group, known for their close harmonies and distinctive doo-wop sound. The LP combines heartfelt ballads, rhythmic R&B and the layered vocal style that helped define vocal-group music in the early 1960s. The title track, Remember Me Baby, opens the collection. Other songs include Eyes, Out In The Cold Again, Life Is But A Dream, Cry Cry Cry and Our Day Will Come. Side two features Remember Then, Never, Amor, Looking My Way, Don’t Forget and Kissin’. The selection highlights memorable melodies, tightly blended voices and classic doo-wop arrangements. The album was issued on Old Town Records, and later repressings are also known to exist. For fans of American vocal groups, doo-wop and early R&B, Remember Me Baby is a worthwhile addition to a record collection.

THE EARLS

The Earls. one of the last of Allen's groups to record, is the most modern of the groups. "Meet Me After School" sounds very much like what the El Dorados might have been putting out "I Love You So" is a ballad in which the group sings with elan and vigor. The Earls recorded these sides at an Arbee Stidham session in July 1957, which featured the Lefty Bates band.
