As a young man with the ever-busy vocal harmony group The Cues, which he joined in 1955, Jimmy Breedlove sang on the influential "Burn That Candle," "Why," "Crackerjack" and "Killer Diller." A solo career beckoned, leading to stellar releases for Atco, Epic and then RCA, for whom he recorded the well-received "Rock 'n' Roll Hits" LP - a hit with the Ducktail and Ponytail partners - from which came the reissue of "Killer Diller" and "Whole Lot-ta Shakin'."

Die Cues hatten eine 55er Veröffentlichung auf Jubilee Coupling Only You (nicht The Platters' Smash) und I Fell For Your Loving (beide Jones Fahrzeuge), und sie verkleideten sich als The Four Students für Hot Rotten Soda Pop und seinen Flip So Near And Yet So Far auf RCA's Groove Tochter, bevor sie sich in Capitol als The Cues mit Apalachicola, Jimmy Breedlove ihren anderen Tenor einrichteten. Am 11. August 1955 schneiden die Cues ihr erstes Date für ihr neues Label in Capitols New Yorker Studios in der 47th Street. Scott brachte Burn That Candle mit; hüpfend und ansteckend, wurde es von Breedlove expressiv gesungen, und Sam'The Man' Taylor drehte ein brühendes Saxophon-Solo. Jones führte die andere Seite, die Stone-penned Ballade Oh My Darlin', 13 Tage später an. Capitol gab Burn That Candle im September heraus, nur um Bill Haley und His Comets' Decca Cover auf Platz 9 zu sehen, während The Cues' Original auf Platz 86 schmachtete.
Während sie ihren geschäftigen Hintergrundkalender bei Atlantic hinter Big Joe Turner, Ivory Joe Hunter und Ruth Brown beibehielten, versuchten The Cues mit der kecken Jones-geführten Neuheit Charlie Brown (nicht der zukünftige Hit von The Coasters) gegen Ende des Jahres sowie der Rakete Destination 2100 And 65 (von Ollie geschrieben und vorgeführt) einen eigenen Capitol-Hit zu landen,ein Breedlove-fronted Crackerjack ohne andere Cues und ein Stone-penned Why that Breedlove led in '56 that made a #77 pop showing in early '57. Die Cues wurden zum Capitol's Prep Logo für ihren Schwanengesang Crazy, Crazy Party, angeführt von Ollie, degradiert. Stone war ihr Produzent.
Das Songwriting erwies sich sowohl für Jones (Nat Cole'sSend For Me and the Crests' Step By Step) als auch für Scott (The Five Keys' Gee Whittakers und Elvis' One Broken Heart For Sale) als lukrativ, nachdem die Cues ausgeblendet wurden. De Costa nahm an unzähligen Sessions als Backgroundsänger teil, während Breedlove eine 58er Solo-LP auf RCA Camden machte.
