Lacy J. Dalton: Survivor - Lacy J. (CD)
(Morello Records) 20 tracks - 2 classic albums on 1 CD
Lacy J. Dalton is one of the most underrated singers in country music. With a voice closer to Bonnie Raitt than any other female country singer, Lacy could be described as the female version of Waylon Jennings.
Survivor, originally released in 1989, produced three hit singles, “The Heart,” “I'm A Survivor,” and “Hard Luck Ace.” Lacy probably heard Kris Kristofferson's song “The Heart” when they toured together in Europe. The best-known song on the album is Paul Simon's “Still Crazy After All These Years.”
The album Lacy J., released in 1990, produced three singles, “Black Coffee” (which became a big line-dancing hit), “Where Did We Go Right,” and “Lonesome (As The Night Is Long).” The album includes a duet with Glen Campbell on the track “Shaky Ground.” Surprisingly, Lacy won only one major award (Best New Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music in 1980), but awards are irrelevant to those who know how to listen: she is one of the greatest honky-tonk singers with a husky voice of all time.
