Jimmy Clanton

Bereits wahrend seiner Zeit auf der Highschool schloß sich der am 2.September 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, geborene Jimmy Clanton einer Schulband an. Als er dann den Pianisten Dick Holler traf, beschloß Clanton Berufsmusiker zu werden und trat der Band "Night Trainers" bei.

Die Band ging dann nach New Orleans und man anderte den Bandnamen in "Rockets". Unter diesem Namen wurden auch einige Demobander produziert. Wahrend einer dieser Aufnahmesessions wurde das Talent von Jimmy Clanton als Solist entdeckt und man bot ihm einen Plattenvertrag an.

Die erste Single "Just A Dream" (ACE 546) wurde auch gleich ein Millionseller und erreichte 1958 Platz 4 in den Charts. In dem Film "Go Johnny Go" spielte Clanton eine Rolle und auch die Single "Go Jimmy Go"(ACE 575) wurde wieder ein groBer Hit, der 1960 bis auf Platz 5 in den Charts kam.

Die dann folgenden Aufnahmen waren keine Hits mehr und es dauerte bis 1962, ehe dann noch einmal ein Song von Clanton in die Charts kam: "Venus In Blue Jeans", Platz 7.
