Various – Hi Records - The Early Years: Vol. 2 is a historical compilation documenting the early period of Hi Records. Released in 1988, the collection focuses on recordings from 1957 to 1964 and presents early rock’n’roll, rhythm & blues and rockabilly from the label’s catalogue. Artists represented include Tommy Tucker, Gene Simmons, Jerry Arnold, Narvel Felts and Bill Black’s Combo. Documented tracks include Tommy Tucker’s “The Wild Side Of Life” as well as Bill Black’s Combo performances of “Son Of Smokie”, “Crank Case”, “TD’s Boogie Woogie (Cyclone Bop)” and “Deep Elem Blues”. The compilation offers a look at an early side of the Hi Records catalogue, before the label became particularly associated with soul music.
