Ramblin Big Creek was recorded live over three days in a studio on the west side of Aarhus.
There were 11 musicians (including a three-man brass section), a sound engineer, a microphone and no overdubs involved.

Big Creek Slim produced the album with some specific goals in mind:
1. to record only original material on the album and
2. to obtain a continuous coherent sound for the recording.

Big Creek wanted to achieve what he calls a completely imperfect sound on Ramblin Big Creek, capturing the raw spontaneity of country blues and early urban blues recordings as found on labels like Sun, Chess and Excello.
