The 13th Floor Elevators: 13 Of The Best Of The 13th Floor Elevators (CD)
Remastered compilation of the 13th Floor Elevators, who originally formed in Austin, Texas in 1965 around Roky Erickson, Tommy Hall, Bennie Thurman, Stacy Sutherland and John Ike Walton.
This compilation heralds a new phase in the 13th Floor Elevators catalog and is a foretaste of the forthcoming The Quest For Pure Sanity series: the release of all surviving source material from all of the band's recordings in optimum quality. "13 Of The Best Of The 13th Floor Elevators" was mastered separately for vinyl, CD, digital and streaming to ensure the best possible sound quality for each format.
"13 Of The Best" was produced by the 13th Floor Elevators' official archivist and historian, Paul Drummond, who also wrote the cover notes with complete track-by-track information. Author of "Eye Mind" (2007), the comprehensive and definitive biography of the 13th Floor Elevators, and "13th Floor Elevators: A Visual History" (2020), Drummond has spent a lifetime documenting every aspect of the Elevators' history and, in collaboration with band members, has amassed an unparalleled archive of original material and memorabilia.

The 13th Floor Elevators
The 13th Floor Elevators are a legend and one that will continue to grow as the years go by. They were ahead of their time in many ways and also a product of them. Wether or not they were the first "psychedelic" band is not that important; what is important is their music. The recordings that are left are good but not the band as it was live, especially in their first year. The ridiculous "live" LP that International Artists put out is overshadowed by the live tapes that do exist. Drugs, an incredibly malevolent record company and the usual inter-band conflicts brought an early end to the Elevators. To think of a band like that in 1960s Texas is amazing. But they were definitely a part of it; acidized country boys playing psychedelic Buddy Holly riffs, a mixture that couldn't have happened anywhere else.
