ZZEBRA: Hungry Horse - Live In Bremen 1975 (CD)
(Made In Germany) 8 Tracks
Zzebra was an unusual but unfortunately short-lived British jazz rock band of the 1970s, a kind of "supergroup" that mixed jazz, progressive rock and African rhythms. Zzebra was founded by the two ex-If members Terry Smith (g) and Dave Quincy (sax) as well as Loughty Amao (sax, flute) from the Afro rock band Osibisa.
In 1974 and 1975 the band released two albums on Polydor, became the house band at the legendary Ronnie Scott's Club in London for a short time and toured with Yes, Soft Machine and Chick Corea's Return To Forever. On October 20, 1975, Zzebra performed at the Postaula in Bremen. The concert was recorded and is now being released for the first time. Dave Quincy and Laughty Amao were joined on stage in Bremen by bass guitarist John McCoy (later Gillan and Mammoth), keyboardist Tommy Eyre (Alex Harvey, Illusion, MSG, among others), singer Alan Marshall, guitarist Steve Byrd (later Gillan) and Irish drummer Liam Genockey (Amalgan, Steeleye Span, Gillan).
Dave Quincy: "This Radio Bremen live session from 1975 is probably the last recording of Zzebra before the band broke up, and it's an example of how bands can be ahead of their time."
John McCoy: "This was such an evening with its typical highs and lows, we improvised, took musical risks and we just had a great time on stage together!"
