Trying to place Watkins in a musical category is not without its problems, but the astute Nick Lowe once remarked that he could be classified as "the missing link between Paulo Conte and Howlin' Wolf."
Another beacon of taste - Bob Dylan - declared himself a fan, playing two solo pieces on his Theme Time Radio Hour and saying (without a hint of irony) that "Geraint Watkins is my favorite English pianist." So there you have it... truly high praise.
Geraint Watkins, who for many years was a mainstay in the bands of Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, Dave Edmunds and countless others, is also a revered creator of his own sublime music, much of which has already been perfectly captured in a handful of solo albums.
For 2019's RUSH OF BLOOD, Geraint found a new and unlikely collaborator in the form of Basement Jaxx's Simon Ratcliffe to push his boundaries even further. This unique interplay - backed by some master musicians - has produced what will surely be considered Watkins' best solo project to date.
