Jackson is one of those smaller cities: located very roughly halfway between Memphis and Nashville, Jackson spawned a 'cottage industry' of Record Companies during the 1950s and 1960s, with labels such as Juxon, Lu, Hillcrest and Westwood, managing to release a clutch of outstanding 45's which clearly demonstrated a definitive 'Jackson Sound'. One of the smallest of the Jackson record labels was the aforementioned Jaxon Records, with only five known 45's released. However, thanks to Jaxon's best known artist - Carl Mann - this retrospective has been made possible. (Bear Family Records)
