'THE !!! BEAT' IS BACK

Once THE !!! BEAT was only a legend. Fans and collectors heard that there was a television show in the mid-1960s that captured the absolute very best of the soul and R&B singers of the day. Some said it was made in Nashville and some said that it was made in Dallas. Musicians remembered working on the show and a few people remembered seeing it, but no one seemed to know what had happened to it. Did the tapes still exist? How many shows were there? Who exactly was on it?

Now, nearly forty years later Bear Family answers all the questions. All the episodes still exist! It really was a fabulous show! It really was in color! It really did feature the absolute best of the soul and R&B acts of the day! And whereas once just fragments of the shows made their way onto bootlegs, now the entire series is available in first-generation quality. It has been a long time coming, but now THE !!! BEAT is back!

Soul music is bigger than ever now, just as the original practitioners are dying off or performing way past their prime. Revivalists like Joss Stone often only emphasize how great the originals were in their day, so here is a reminder of what REAL soul music was like from the absolute original masters. There were 26 THE !!! BEAT shows, and many of the performances were live in the studio with a backup band led by the terrific Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown. THE !!! BEAT IST ZURÜCK !

Lange Zeit war THE !!! BEAT kaum mehr als ein Gerücht. Fans und Sammler hatten was von einer TV-Show aus den Mittsechzigern gehört, in der die Creme der Soul- und R&B-Stars jener Zeit aufgetreten sein sollen. Angeblich sei das Ganze in Nashville aufgenommen worden. Oder doch in Dallas?! Auch einige Künstler erinnerten sich daran, mitgemacht zu haben, aber kein Mensch wußte so genau, was daraus geworden war. Gab es die Originalbänder überhaupt noch? Wieviele Ausgaben dieser Show sind gelaufen? Wer genau war dabei?

Nach knapp 40 Jahren hat Bear Family jetzt alle Antworten parat: Sämtliche Folgen existieren noch! Es war tatsächlich eine Hammer-Show! Komplett in Farbe! Und es waren wirklich die ultimativen Stars dabei! Und während irgendwann mal Bruchstücke auf schedderigen Bootlegs auftauchten, gibt es jetzt das gesamte Paket – in der Qualität der definitven Original-Bänder. Es hat eine Weile gedauert, aber jetzt steht es fest: THE !!!! BEAT ist wieder zu haben!

Soul hat momentan absolute Hochkonjunktur – obwohl viele Original-Interpreten schon längst nicht mehr da sind und andere ihre alte Klasse nicht mehr erreichen. Nachgewachsene Künstlerinnen wie etwa Joss Stone lassen erahnen, wie phantastisch die Originalaufnahmen vieler Songs geklungen haben.
