None other than Nick Cave helped director John Hillcoat with the screenplay for the film “Lawless” and also took care of the film's soundtrack. Cave and his fellow musician Warren Ellis form the core of The Bootleggers, a country and bluegrass ensemble that welcomes a number of guest artists such as Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, and Mark Lanegan. The soundtrack to “Lawless” includes cover versions by artists such as Velvet Underground and Captain Beefheart, as well as original compositions by Cave/Ellis and the great Willie Nelson.
“Lawless” is a star-studded film from director John Hillcoat (“The Road,” “The Proposition”) about a gang of smugglers in Virginia during the Great Depression. And when we say star-studded cast, we mean it: Guy Pierce, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, and Shia LeBoeuf have signed on for this dark and moving story about brothers trying to create their own American dream during Prohibition.
“Lawless” is available in a limited edition of 500 numbered copies on smokey marble vinyl and includes an 8-page booklet with film images and liner notes by Hal Willner and director John Hillcoat.
