This compilation celebrates the 60th anniversary of the “cellars full of soul” years at the famous venue on Whitworth Street, September 1965 – February 1971. These were groundbreaking years in which the Wheel's playlist shifted from blues and R&B to the joyful sounds of young America, or as blues and soul journalist Dave Godin put it: “the groove in the north.” It was these pivotal years and these dance tracks that lit the torch of Northern Soul.
