Mel Alexander's Consolidated Productions, which operated on the fringes of L.A.'s highly competitive music business from 1961 to 1991, was one of the longest-running independent black-owned record labels of the 20th century. Entangled in a tangled web of labels - including Ajax, Angel Town, Car-AMel, Emanuel and Kris - this first edition collects 28 smoldering R&B songs by Lee Harvey, B.B. Carter, Marilyn Calloway, Del Reys, Deb Tones, De Velles, Gene Russell's Trio, Jimmy "Preacher" Ellis and Ty Karim.

 "Consolidated Productions Vol. I" has been remastered from the original 1/4-inch tapes and includes carefully researched notes, a discography and photos of a key producer.
