The lowrider culture developed in Los Angeles in the 1950s and 1960s. Latino youths began modifying their cars, reducing the wheelbase, decorating them with elaborate paintings and fetishizing them as part of an emerging lifestyle. They were unique, sleek and designed to make an impression. They rode the streets and boulevards parading their “low-low's” and their decked out ladies to a mix of black and brown soul, doo-wop and smooth group harmony.

Today, lowrider culture and music is more popular worldwide than at any time in its sixty-year history. The original record values have reached an all-time high and current, young, up-and-coming artists are interpreting and creating new lowrider sounds.
