Seine ersten Aufnahmen machte Townsend 1929, und er hat seinen Stil kaum verändert /he was already seventy years old when these recordings were made. Bob West, Arcola Records owner, used portable mono equipment to record him in his living room, and in a piano store. Townsend made his first 78s in 1929. His style hasn't changed a bit.
