Rockabilly, made in Germany - a strong lady in a male domain. Debut CD with German musicians and cover versions of classics as well as own songs.

No melancholy on the piano, no folk songs to the acoustic, no pop trilling: Peggy Sugarhill dares something (different), and that in a - also international - male domain: Rockabilly pure!

Peggy who! The singer grew up in Cologne as the daughter of Czech-Lithuanian parents. Already in her early youth she sang in amateur formations, among others songs of the Andrews Sisters. And then he came into the picture, Elvis! Movies, music, clothes, presence - Peggy Sugarhill was permanently infected. For the purpose of material security, she learned foreign language secretary, but the music didn't let her off the hook anymore. Even the participation in a Presley cover band didn't change that - the young lady wanted to be on her own feet! And that with Rockabilly, as the few women long before their time had dared him: Wanda Jackson, Charline Arthur, Sister Rosetta (Tharpe), who had also courageously acquired songs from legendary colleagues. The time was ripe for Peggy Sugarhill!

The backbeat musicians, who had already helped singer Sasha to a successful career turn and into the charts, appeared on the scene. Already the first live performances in pubs, at city festivals and similar events provided for powerful resonance, tendency rising. Interested producers put a collaboration on hold at the beginning of the year when they heard about the singer's pregnancy.

What now, what are Selbst sind die Frau: Peggy Sugarhill & Band brought their debut CD'live' into the box at the Cologne Bex Studio with Hanno Kahl. And when Bear Family Records, always ready for hopeful newcomers, got wind of it, their thumbs went up - done!

Whether genre classics by Arthur Crudup (That's Alright Mama), Brian Setzer (Stray Cats; Switchblade 327), Jackie DeShannon (Breakaway) and Titus Turner (Sticks And Stones) - Peggy Sugarhill has them all under control; and casually garnishes her debut with equally convincing, explosive songs from her own production (Rockabilly Music Is Bad Bad Bad, Gisele, Eldorado Lost) without losing quality.

Ladies first: Contemporary Rockabilly has a new name - Peggy Sugarhill.

Peggy wer ! Die Sängerin wuchs als Tochter tschechisch-litauischer Eltern in Köln auf. Schon in früher Jugend sang sie aus Spaß an der Freude in Amateurformationen, u.a. Songs der Andrews Sisters. Und dann kam ER ins Bild, Elvis! Filme, Musik, Kleidung, Präsenz - Peggy Sugarhill war nachhaltig infiziert. Zwecks materieller Absicherung lernte sie Fremdsprachensekretärin, doch die Musik ließ sie nicht mehr vom Haken. Auch die Mitwirkung in einer Presley-Coverband änderte nichts daran - die junge Lady wollte auf eigene Füße! Und zwar mit Rockabilly, so wie ihn die wenigen Frauen lange vor ihrer Zeit gewagt hatten: Wanda Jackson, Charline Arthur, Sister Rosetta (Tharpe), die sich ebenfalls mutig Songs längst legendärer Kollegen angeeignet hatten.
