Even though most people enjoy listening to music, there is surprisingly little literature devoted to this subject, apart from non-fiction books and biographies of supreme musicians. And although various prizes, up to and including the Nobel Prize, are awarded in literature every year, most people are hardly aware that there is no such prize in the field of music. What could a novel on the subject of music look like? And if not a Nobel Prize, what would at least seasoned musicians or real music freaks recommend listening to?

"The Best Record Collection in the World" or Why Everything Is a Lie now gives its very own answer to these questions. In addition to the hundreds (!) of - mostly rather incidental - listening tips, the first part of the book tells of the development of his friendship with Bernd, the history of the record shop and the little stories around it from Bonke's point of view. In the second part, more than 30 music albums selected by Bernd and/or their artists are explicitly presented. Sometimes, however, we simply learn more about him. All in all, this is a well-researched book that will not only be a pleasure to read for music fans due to the realistic plot and the humorous style, but also - for example, due to the artifice of moving the main story to 1999 - allows for some comparative, retrospective observation.
