Son Volt Day Of The Doug (LP)

Son Volt's latest album, "Day of the Doug," is dedicated to the music of legendary Texas troubadour Doug Sahm (Sir Douglas Quintet).

Of course is much more than fond remembrance and colorful tribute. It is an evocation and celebration of a songwriter and performer whose work forged country, Tex-Mex, rock, rhythm and blues, folk and psychedelia into an utterly unique American sound. Sahm's 50-year career has been a restless and relentless search for the Holy Grail of "groove." As a kid, he played pedal steel with Hank Williams Sr. before landing three Top 40 hits with the Sir Douglas Quintet and recording a dizzying array of solo works with a series of changing personalities on a carousel of record labels.

Son Volt's eleventh release since 1995's Trace follows confidently in Sahm's footsteps. Like any journey in search of a grail, Day of the Doug searches for all the things that make young artists fall in love with making music in the first place: Adventure, curiosity, and the chance to grab a little immortality.
