When Nate Smith first released his song “Wildfire!” on Tick Tok in 2020, the artist from Pradise, California, had high hopes for the song, but probably never dreamed how far it would take him.
In 2023, Smith is signed to Sony Music Nashville, and Nate Smith describes his debut album as a “full-length project”. It wasn't an overnight success for Smith, as he had already gotten a shot in Nashville in the mid-2010s before moving back home to Paradise. After losing his home in the Butte County Camp Fire in 2018, Smith wrote the song “One Of These Days” to cope with his loss, and soon found attention for his music again. He moved back to Nashville and eventually began releasing music on TikTok - a bet on himself that paid off.
Nate Smith opens with “If I Could Stop Lovin You”, a heartbreaking anthem with plenty of hooks. “You Only Want Me When You're Drunk” is a groovy mix of funk and country-pop, with Smith's versatile voice blending well with the track's pulsing bass and poppy chorus. 'Name Storms After' is a sophisticated ode to a singular love, while 'You Shouldn't Have To' encourages a flame to accept herself for who she is. And although 'Qildfire' didn't make the final track list, Smith serves you plenty of other songs worth sharing.
