The nyckelharpa – an instrument steeped in magic and tradition. Thomas Roth is one of the few masters who have mastered this complex wonder of sound. With his new album “Maskenball,” he takes the nyckelharpa into new musical realms, combining its medieval roots with modern influences.

Roth's career began with Die Geyers, the first band in Germany to combine rock and medieval music. He later toured with Blackmore's Night, the project of Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) and Candice Night. “Maskenball” surprises with exciting collaborations:

Produced by Alex Krull (Tanzwut, among others), with guest appearances by Elina Siirala (Leaves' Eyes) and members of Cradle of Filth in the video. Roth's playing is passionate, narrative, and genre-spanning—sometimes cheerful, sometimes melancholic. An album that breaks boundaries and redefines the nyckelharpa.
