Geboren und aufgewachsen in Ost-Nashville, gründete Floyd Robinson eine Band, die Eagle Rangers, mit dem zukünftigen Hank Williams Sideman Jerry Rivers und dem zukünftigen Studio-Bassisten Bob Moore. Robinson (geboren 1932, nicht 1937 oder'38, wie es später heißt), spielte Gitarre mit Little Jimmy Dickens und George Morgan, bevor er sich der Opry und den Arbeitssitzungen anschloss. Dann begann er, Songs für Tree Music zu schreiben, und gründete ein Duett, Bart & Bart, mit Tree Manager Buddy Killen (später war Floyd Teil eines anderen Duetts, Jack & Daniel, mit Autry Inman). Arbeitssitzungen rund um Nashville, Robinson warf seine Songs und ließ sie von Bill Monroe, George Morgan und den Browns schneiden.

Sein erster großer Hit kam, als Jesse Lee Turner eine Neuheit aufnahm, The Little Space Girl. In dem Monat, in dem Turners Platte in die Charts kam, unterschrieb Robinson bei RCA als Künstler, und auch seine zweite Platte für das Label, Makin' Love, verkaufte sich eine Million Mal. Die Nachfolger, von denen keines auch nur annähernd so gut lief, waren Boudleaux Bryants charmantes Why Can't It Go On. Robinson nahm für mehrere andere Labels auf, unter anderem für den religiösen Verleger Zondervan, für den er eine Reihe von Kiddies-Platten aufnahm. Die ganze Zeit entwickelte er Immobilien und zog sich 1985 nach Florida zurück.
