When a certain Freddy Quinn reached number one in the German hit parade in May 1956 with Heimweh, the supposed B-side of his debut single, Polydor chalked up this sensational debut success as a welcome fluke, without being able to foresee the extent of success and record sales that the high-flying Freddy Quinn was to bring Polydor over the next 20 years. Heimweh sold more than two million copies and was the prelude to Freddy Quinn's unrivalled series of successes in Germany to this day, which has long since taken him beyond the status of a mass idol to become one of the most distinctive personalities in the public life of the Federal Republic.

His gold-plated million-selling hits such as Heimatlos, Junge komm bald wieder, Die Gitarre und das Meer and Unter fremden Sternen show that Freddy Quinn's musical horizons and ambitions went far beyond the image of the singing sailor. 14 tracks on this CD album were penned by his house composer Lotar Olias, including You You You and Blue Mirage, which became huge hits in the USA. Both titles were recorded in Hamburg in 1962, remained unreleased at the time and are given their world premiere on this selection. This CD album reflects the successful period from 1956-1965 of the grandiose Freddy Quinn.
