The five-piece of shaved, saxophone-blowing, reverb-stomping maniacs mixed up the stages of unsuspecting West Coast teenagers and were brought to the big screen by the 1964 B-movie "Bikini Beach."

The album features the hit track "Penetration," one of the undisputed cornerstones of surf history! In the 1960s, when surf music was played up and down the beaches of the Southern California coast, it was often just a gimmick that set one band apart from the rest. The Surfaris had the laugh at the beginning of "Wipe Out." The Chantays had the great guitar run at the beginning of "Pipeline." The Tornadoes tried their hand at "Shootin' Beavers"; the Pyramids had just great surf music ... And bald heads.

Their big hit, "Penetration," stayed in the Top Ten (Billboard) for 13 weeks and even reached #4 nationally; only the Beatles prevented the song from rising higher. The Pyramids appeared on American Bandstand (twice), The Bob Eubanks Show, Shebang, Dave Hull's Hullabaloo and The Lloyd Thaxton Show. The band recorded a handful more great singles and an album before breaking up in 1965. Now, after 25 years, the Pyramids are back in action and ready to rock!

Der Produzent Tony Hilder änderte den Namen der Gruppe in The Charades und wurde als Produzent von Surf N' Stomp aufgeführt, das von Al Garcia und Ray Jiminez für George Sherlocks Northridge Records geschrieben wurde, obwohl auf der Website von The Charades steht, dass Garcia und Charade Ray Baradat die Produktion der Single von 1963 übernommen haben. Hilder produzierte ihr Nachfolgewerk für das Ava-Label von Tanzlegende Fred Astaire später im selben Jahr, Please Be My Love Tonight.

Ihr Markenzeichen, die rasierten Köpfe, glänzten, The Pyramids führten Bikini Drag in dem 1964 gedrehten Film "Bikini Beach" auf, während der Komiker Don Rickles einen riesigen Vogel auf dem Kopf trug, ein Typ im Affenanzug teilte sich einen Tisch mit dem Schauspieler Keenan Wynn, und Frankie Avalon und Annette Funicello strahlten vor schöner Jugend in der Nähe. Die Choreographie der Pyramiden war ebenso aufregend wie ihre Musik: Der Lead-Gitarrist Skip Mercier machte einen Salto im mittleren Solo von der Bühne. Dank des Linkshänder-Gitarristen Willy Glover war das Quintett vielleicht das einzige integrierte Surf-Outfit Südkaliforniens; Saxophonist Tom Pitman, Bassist Steve Leonard und Schlagzeuger Ron McMullen vervollständigten das Quintett.

Die aus Long Beach, Kalifornien, stammende Band formierte sich in der High School und gab Ende 1962 ihr Debüt 45, Pyramid's Stomp, für das in Long Beach ansässige Label Best. Ihr von John Hodge produzierter instrumentaler Surfklassiker Penetration schaffte es Anfang '64 auf Platz 18 der Hot 100, wiederum auf Best. Trotz der Veröffentlichung in "Bikini Beach" erschien Bikini Drag, das von den Surf-Titanen Garry Usher und Roger Christian geschrieben wurde, zu dieser Zeit nicht auf Vinyl.
