Royce Porter

Royce Porter, bekannt in den letzten Jahren als Country-Songwriter aus Nashville, der Hits für George Strait, Tanya Tucker und andere geschrieben hat, war erst neunzehn, als er im Herbst 1958 Lookin' for 'D' seines Lebensgefährten Ray Doggett aufnahm. Wie Colin Escott in seinen Notizen zu "The Complete 'D' Singles, Volume 1" betont, war der aus Sweetwater, Texas, stammende Royce Porter zu diesem Zeitpunkt jedoch bereits ein erfahrener Veteran. Er und Doggett hatten Rock 'n' Roll für das in Houston ansässige Spade-Label von Doyle Jones & Bennie Hess aufgenommen, was zu einer von "Pappy" Daily vermittelten Session mit Mercury führte.

Dieser Deal ging leider in die Hose und Porter zog in Texas umher, bis er in den späten 60ern nach Nashville umzog, bevor er in den 80ern endlich als Songschreiber erfolgreich war. Diese Session wurde von Doggett bei Gold Star produziert (Doggett schrieb auch beide Seiten des Albums) und es klingt so, als ob Porter von denselben Echoes unterstützt wurde, die auch Johnny Mathis bei seiner "Les Cole"-Veröffentlichung unterstützten.
