Gene Pitney – Sings Just For You is a 1963 album by American singer Gene Pitney, originally released on Musicor. It belongs to the highly characteristic early-1960s period of Pitney’s career and presents twelve melodic pop recordings featuring his distinctive and expressive vocal style. The album includes Teardrop By Teardrop, Mecca, Cornflower Blue, Not Responsible, The Angels Got Together, Don’t Let The Neighbors Know, The Ship True Love Goodbye, House Without Windows, Aladdin’s Lamp, Time And The River, Peanuts, Popcorn, Crackerjack And Jelly Apple and Tell The Moon To Go To Sleep. One of the best-known selections is “Mecca”, which was released as a Gene Pitney single in 1963 and reached number 12 on the US pop chart and number 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album captures the polished, melodic sound of American pop in the early 1960s and showcases the dramatic vocal approach that became one of Pitney’s trademarks.
