More than 50 million records sold, LP productions in Hungarian, German and English, tours and festival appearances all over Europe and Japan, at least 50 cover versions or adaptations of the world hit "Gyöngyhajú lány" - Omega are Hungary's number one rock export. In 2022, the band will celebrate its 60th anniversary on stage, making it one of the longest-serving rock formations in the world. On St. Nicholas Day, 06 December 2021, singer and founding member Janos Kobor died of the corona virus. Now the Omega albums from the well-known and successful Bacillus phase are coming back on the market originally and completely on CD, vinyl and digitally. After a few excursions into psychedelic rock realms, Omega presented themselves more catchy again on "III" at the end of 1974: Nine crunchy hard rock numbers, only one exceeded the four-minute mark.

For this, Hauke, who was still the executive producer, and Omega not only used current material, but also songs that had already been released on record in the Hungarian original in 1969: Stormy Fire and Spanish Guitar.

In order to appeal to a wider audience in the future, the songs had been pared down, instrumental solo efforts were kept to a minimum. With Stormy Fire, Go On The Spree and Fancy Jeep, the five Hungarians had rather hautrauf rockers on the list, which could also appeal to a glam rock fan who had just enthusiastically consumed the single hits by The Sweet and Slade.

Omega

OMEGA aus Budapest waren in ihrer Heimat spätestens mit ihrem 1969er-Megahit Gyöngyhajú lány (Mädchen mit dem Perlenhaar), zur Nummer Eins des ungarischen Rock aufgestiegen. Bis heute hat der Titel zahlreiche Musiker zu Coverversionen inspiriert: von Frank Schöbels deutscher Version Schreib es mir in den Sand bis hin zu den Scorpions (White Dove) und Kanye West, der wegen der Verwendung von Samples aus dem Originalsong 2016 von Komponist und Keyboarder Gábor Presser verklagt wurde. Als Presser 1971 die Band verließ und mit Locomotiv GT seine eigene, überaus erfolgreiche Gruppe formierte, sahen viele das Ende von OMEGA gekommen, was sich schnell als Irrtum erwies…
