This performance and album features Aliison Krauss, John Prine, Vince Gill, Jackson Browne and many other 'friends' of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and was recorded at the historic Ryman Auditorium in NAshville TN. The CD contains two extra songs not originally part of the PBS version.

"The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band"

Gegründet 1965 in Long Beach. Die 5-Mann-Truppe, die unter anderem mit Fiedel, Waschbrett, Mandoline, Sägen und Glasflaschen aller Art musiziert, will bewußt Musik zum Wohlfühlen für fröhliche Hörer machen. Die Gruppe, die sich einen eigenen Stil aus Folklore, Blues, Jug-Band-Music, Skiffle und Bluegrass zusammengemixt hat, erinnert leicht an den legendären Nonsens Spike Jones'. Weil sie sich stilistisch nicht festlegen laslen will, wurde die Gruppe bisher in keinem Musikgenre wirklich populär. Der erfolgreichste Film, in dem die Nitty Gritty Dirt Band bislang zu hören war, war das Musical „Paint Your Wagon'.
