Real Gone Music has a tradition of releasing Christmas albums on CD every holiday season, and this year is one that has established a tradition all its own.
For nearly 70 years, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - now known as The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square - has provided the soundtrack to Christmas. The lush and majestic sound of the 360-member, all-volunteer choir is one of the most distinctive in American popular music, and that's due in no small part to the tradition of the group's Christmas albums. This legacy, which continues to this day, began in 1957 with the release of “The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Sings Christmas Carols” by Columbia Masterworks. Although the choir made its first recordings in 1910, “Christmas Carols” was their first Christmas album and quickly became a popular perennial in the Columbia catalog. Eight years later, when stereo sound had become almost universal, the album was re-recorded and the original disappeared ... Until now! Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records are proud to celebrate the season with the first authorized reissue of “The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Sings Christmas Carols” in all its glorious mono glory. Christmas music has never sounded more stirring and inspiring than on this collection of fifteen classic carols and hymns accompanied by the monumental 11,623-pipe organ in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. We've added four rare bonus tracks from the era (in stereo) to this must-have package. Everything has been newly remastered from the original tapes by Mike Milchner of SonicVision, and Joe Marchese of The Second Disc has written new liner notes exploring the history of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas music. The most wonderful time of the year just got a little more wonderful with the CD premiere of this lost classic from “America's Choir” and is sure to liven up your Christmas morning!
