The Memphis Royal Brothers Band offers captivating original songs performed by music legends from the heart of American music... with a powerful story to tell.
This is authentic American music that has emerged from its roots.
The 17 songs range from exuberant celebration to poetic poetry to towering soul spirituals.
The musicians include 6 Grammy award winners and nominees and, yes, an Oscar winner. They are all legends, each with acclaim and a fan base of their own.
They have performed on thousands of albums and national tours, including the most recognized and beloved rock 'n' roll, blues, soul, R&B, country, jazz and Americana artists and musical groups of all time.
The main singer of the Royal Brothers is Marcus Scott, formerly of Tower of Power. There are five other singers, including Grammy Award winners Bobby Rush and Jim Lauderdale, and Grammy nominee Charlie Musselwhite. Wendy Moten (protégé of Vince Gill and Julio Iglesias) sings on 3 songs, and Memphis native Lil Rounds (American Idol) makes her debut with original music.
The numerous instrumentalists include Grammy nominee Luther Dickinson, today's version of the Memphis Horns led by Marc Franklin and featuring saxophone solos by Lanny McMillian and Kirk Smothers. The harp solos are by Bobby Rush and Charlie Musselwhite, and the breathtaking keyboard parts by Stax and Royal Studios legends Charles Hodges and Lester Snell also characterize every Royal Brothers song.
The musical foundation of the Royal Brothers is a powerful rhythm section with an unstoppable groove, consisting of Stax legend Steve Potts on drums, Jackie Clark on bass and Stax legends Michael Toles and Gary Bolen on guitars.
The songs written by songwriters Gary Bolen and Wes Hamil are of such stirring and emotional power that they have brought this musical family to life. In addition, Oscar, Grammy and Johnny Mercer Songwriter Hall of Fame winner and current ASCAP President Paul Williams has co-written several Royal Brothers songs with Wes.
