We have always felt that the only thing that matters is that the artists and performers have the ability to entertain you. We recorded Trini Lopez when no one else knew of him. We knew in our hearts that he had a feeling in his singing that would appeal to you. Unfortunately, after trying with him for twenty-four record sides, we were forced to tell him to look for greener pastures. knowing that the day would come when Trini would become a star. 'This day has arrived'. He is looked upon today as one of the outstanding young performers.

We are proud to bring this album to your attention. It consists of twelve teen-age love songs. We did not bring this out by just throwing it together. We analyzed each and every one of the twelve songs as to whether or not the present day buyers would like these songs. It was the unanimous opinion of everyone connected with King Records that these twelve sides were top drawer. To say it another way. these twelve sides are for the present day market.
I am sure that after you hear them. you will agree with me that Trini Lopez is destined to be one of the outstanding artists of this present day.

This is the young man who in the brief time of four years has skyrocketed from the leader of a Rock and Roll Combo in Dallas. Texas to become the hottest new recording find of the year. Trini Lopez's story reads like Horatio Alger. Born in Dallas. Texas. he went through high school there and got his start by forming a high school combo. playing dances in and around the area and upon graduation from high school in 1958 picked up jobs where and when he could find them. Wishing to get on records and unable to interest any of the large companies. he recorded in a Dallas studio himself and along with a friend issued his first record 'Rock On', which is included in this album. The record became an overnight sensation in Texas and came to the attention of the executives of King Records. King made arrangements to take over the record and proceeded to sign Trini to a long term recording contract. His hits on King and his tremendous personality and talent opened the door to stardom and Trini soon found himself appearing on the top Rock and Roll show's along with other top name recording artists. One of his tours took him to California.

Falling in love with Hollywood. Trini decided that this is where his future would be. His first appearance on a steady engagement in Los Angeles was at Ye Little Club where he appeared with Joanie Sommers. He went in on a brief two-week contract but public acceptance and demand extended this to over a year. His next big break came when he was signed as one of the leading acts to appear at Hollyv,,00d's world famous P.J.'s, which has become a show case for musicOorn.s best talent. It was while at P.J.'s that his big album broke and skyrocketed him into worldwide prominence.
Here are 18 songs recorded by Tnni Lopez in Cincinnati. Ohio. during his appearance in that city while making recordings for King Records and appearing at teen record hops sponsored by the city's top disc jockeys. Its a real swinging thing. The live performance aspect creates a tremendous amount of excitement and this enthusiasm is quite evident in Trini's performance. He responds with the vitality of his young years and puts on a superb performance.

Geboren am 15. 5. 1937 als Trinidad Lopez III im texanischen Dallas. Vor den weltbekannten Hits lag eine lange Durststrecke. 1952 gründete Trini Lopez in Wichita Falls seine erste eigene Kapelle namens The Big Beats. Über den Buddy-Holly-Produzenten Norman Petty erhielt er seinen ersten Vertrag bei Columbia für eine One-Off-Single, die jedoch floppte. Anschließend nahm er fuderweise 45er für Volk und vor allem King Records auf, die ebenfalls Ladenhüter blieben. 1962 scheiterte der Versuch, Lopez als Nachfolger des tödlich verunglückten Buddy Holly bei dessen Crickets zu etablieren.

Ein Jahr später gelang der Durchbruch. Lopez spielte im Nachtclub von Los Angeles mit seinen Assistenten Dave Shriver (Bass) und Gene Riggio (Schlagzeug). Dort hörte ihn Frank Sinatra, der Triní für seine eigene Label-Neugründung Reprise unter Vertrag nahm. Producer Don Costa erkannte Lopez' Live-Potential und ließ dessen Platten vor Publikum aufnehmen. Die Mischung aus Latin, Folk, Pop und Rock'n' Roll kam blendend an. Titel wie 'If I Had A Hammer', “Kansas City', 'Lemon Tree' oder (in Deutschland) 'America' gelangten in die Charts (13 US-Treffer zwischen 1963 und 1968). Im US-Kino-Hit “The Dirty Dozen' ('Das dreckige Dutzend') spielte Lopez 1966 neben Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, John Cassavetes und anderen Stars die Rolle des Pedro Jiminez. Weitere US-Spielfilme waren ' - Marriage On The Rocks' ('Dreimal nach Mexiko', 1965), 'The Poppy Is Also A Flower' ('Mohn ist auch eine Blume', 1966), “The Wheels Of Hell' ('Zwei himmlische Schlitzohren', 1982), 'Social Suicide' ('Chili con carne', 1993). Lopez Ist weiter permanent aktiv, gibt Konzerte, veröffentlicht CDs. Zu seinen letzten gehören 'Dance Party' (1998), 'Aylole - Aylola' (2000), 'Dance The Night Away' (2001) und “My Texas Roots' (2002).

Am 12. April 2002 wurde der Entertainer in die Las Vegas Casino Legends Hall Of Fame aufgenommen, im Oktober präsentierte ihm zu Ehren das Vistas Film Festival in Dallas, Texas, eine Retrospektive seiner Kino-Arbeiten.
