The Local Honeys: The Local Honeys (CD)
(La Honda Records) 10 tracks, digisleeve.
The Local Honeys is a third album that in truth feels like a debut. With a focus on original songs and traditional Kentucky instruments and styles, the album explores themes of identity, rurality, storytelling with great characters (both human and animal), and the state of rural life and issues we still face today. Banjos and violins overlap with electric guitar, organs and feedback. It's about femininity, storytelling, death, horses, family history, mental health, issues with Appalachia, Kentucky and rural areas all over the world.
Produced by Jesse Ray Wells (co-producer of Tyler Childers' Long Violent History). Jesse has been the musical mentor of the band Ars for nearly 10 years, and they were his students and apprentices at Morehead State University, where in 2015 they both became the first two women to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Traditional Music. Recorded at La La Land in Louisville because they wanted this record to not only sound like Kentucky, but to be Kentucky at its core.
