Indiana native Bobby Lewis , who had runaway success in recent years with his pop hits for Beltone Records, took years to become an overnight success, as many black artists do. A one-off release for Chess introduced the world to his "Mumbles Blues," which was re-recorded in 1956 in a rocking arrangement for Spotlight Records in Motor City, as here with the equally cool "Solid as a Rock," accompanied by Dave Hamilton's Peppers. He also re-recorded the latter for Roulette, but we have here his first release for that label.

Erster Top Ten Hit: How Long Has It Been (1966) Bobby Lewis, Sänger, Gitarrist und Lautenspieler, wurde oft als „The Artist Who Plays The Lute“ angekündigt. In den 60er Jahren kam er zur Grand Ole Opry, schaffte 1966 einen spektakulären Top Ten Hit und blieb mit einer ganzen Serie von Erfolgstiteln weiterhin im Gespräch. Den großen Erfolg von 1966 konnte er jedoch nicht mehr wiederholen, dennoch kam er auch weit in die 80er Jahre hinein immer wieder mit kleinen Hits in die Country Charts.
