Knoxville's Judybats were the quintessential college rock band, combining folk-rock influences filtered through an alt-rock sensibility (think Rem) with quirky pop and intelligent lyrics reminiscent of an American version of XTC. The title track from their 1991 debut album Native Son landed in the top ten of the modern rock charts, and the album also included a great cover of Roky Erickson's She Lives (in a Time of Her Own). Another excellent 90s album whose vinyl release is long overdue!
