As one of three female vocalists in the band Creative Funk - one of the first truly independent funk collectives of the early 1970s - Diane Jenkins left her mark as an exceptionally talented singer who would undoubtedly have been among the best had she chosen to stay in the scene longer. Creative Funk was an exceptional live funk band that released a handful of singles on their self-founded label (Creative Funk Music). Creative Funk only existed for a short time between 1972 and 1975. Although they were quite successful for a short time in their hometown of New York City, they never had the backing of a major label to reach a wider audience. We are fortunate that she left behind some wonderful recordings with Creative Funk - and also as a solo artist with four releases of her own on the Creative Funk label. With memorable songs like “I'm A Woman”, “Tow-A-Way Zone” and “I Need You” - on which she was most likely accompanied by her bandmates - Jenkins created a small but impressive legacy that will undoubtedly resonate for many years to come. Here we present the complete singles she recorded under her own name, newly remastered for this exclusive compilation and finally available to all digitally.
